Andrea's Artistic Home filled with History

Andrea's Artistic Home filled with History

I first discovered Andrea Granger on Instagram when she started posting about her house in January of this year (2017), her first post literally stopped me in my tracks. You can find her as @hunt.and.scavenge.She has rapidly gained over 20k followers, due to the stunning design of her home which features many pieces collected over years, giving it a sense of history.

She has collected some simply amazing artwork, and created a colourful and playful home. Each square is filled with detail and is a feast for the eyes and as an artist, Andrea also painted the "wallpaper" that you can see in her hallway below, a talent that I am insanely jealous of. Andrea's ability to give her home such a unique design yet retain its cosiness is an incredible talent to have.

In her own words, here is an introduction to Andrea.

Introduction

"A born creative; I've always known that art and design were my calling. I'm a full-time artist/stay at home mom to two kiddos; Matilda and Magnus, have been married to the handiest man I know for 11 years. A voracious reader who paints when life allows the time. Passionate about design, vintage one of a kind pieces and curating homes/spaces which tell a story. My dream job would be to curate a dusty old museum full of odd relics. An old soul to the core."

"One of my favorite architectural details in our home; we love this "book nook" under the stairs." says Andrea. "Features: original slate flooring, vintage MCM chair; collected art and circle wall that I painted a few years ago. Peek into our origin…

Peek into our original 1964 kitchen that I love and hate at times, but Reno for that will come later 🖤"

Andrea says "This inherited MCM dining set has been with my husband and I since our early married years and we still adore it. A space should tell a story; who you are, where you've been and what you hope to become. ""I think our dining room showcas…

"I think our dining room showcases and curates a few of our experiences. The overstuffed hutch holds many of my prized treasures; one of my favourites: antique paper weights gifted from my grandfather. The table and chairs are all original except for the leopard print cushions (that I recovered), chandelier is by Sonneman Lighting, art has been collected over many years as have my plants."

"Another feature to our home we adore: the floor to ceiling windows"

"This double-sided fireplace (other side in family Room) had horrid brown brick originally. " says Andrea. "After many, many coats of white paint it was transformed! Features: antique French mirror, collected art and my quirky mannequin that we've n…

"Features: marble coffee table that my husband created, new and vintage textiles, books, books and more books; vintage lamp and plants (bird of paradise on coffee table)"

"The wall facing the entrance showcases one of my ever-changing gallery walls. As a painter, my love for collecting original art is never ending. I love how this curated wall is the first thing guests see."

"I really allowed her creative freedom with this space." says Andrea of her daughter Matilda's room. "Her requests included: black/white, plants, sequins and my jungle pillow from @coppercorners.""I wanted to create a space that1. Encouraged her to …

"I really allowed her creative freedom with this space." says Andrea of her daughter Matilda's room. "Her requests included: black/white, plants, sequins and my jungle pillow from @coppercorners."

"I wanted to create a space that

1. Encouraged her to want to be in it!

2. An environment that nurtured her imagination

3. And lastly, something that represented her story, or what she currently finds the most important in her young life."

"The scallop wall was a labour of love for this "not so keen on pink" gal, but it has grown on me. The bed frame was mine as a child, the bedding is a mix of DVF home, target and vintage. The side table and arm lamp were both thrift finds that I spruced up."

So, I hope you can see why I am more than a little in love with this home. Like me, Andrea likes to collect and bring a sense of history into her home, something I talk about in my blog on creating a maximalist space.

Thanks so much for sharing your home Andrea.
