Life at Number 63
Another beautiful new find for me, today's Home Tour is with Kat otherwise known as Life at Number 63. You can find out more about Kat and her home through her website and blog here.
I’m Kat, 34, Welsh mum of two living in Surrey. Our home is a three bedroom, two bathroom Victorian semi, which we have completely renovated over the last six years.
I have always loved interior design and am in the process of setting up an interior styling business. Meanwhile, interiors are my passion and writing my blog, working with brands and creating my Instagram feed is a great outlet for it.
I enjoy photographing my home for Instagram, which is mostly Scandinavian inspired with lots of monochrome elements, light wood and houseplants! My favourite colours are green, grey, mustard and nude pink and they are found woven throughout my home to soften the predominantly black and white theme. I guess my style is a mix of scandi, contemporary and boho, and I stay true to these in my decor choices - it is important to have some cohesion and flow from room to room.
When shopping for my home I love to mix high street buys with beautiful items from independent shops to create a stylish interior which doesn’t cost the earth to achieve. I love the customer service you get from smaller shops, and also their dedication and the passion they so clearly have for their products.
I search Instagram, Etsy and Pinterest for lots of my homewares and often find a small business somewhere offering just what I am looking for. I adore places like Trouva and Not On The Highstreet, which are platforms for boutique style shops to sell through, with a large selection of products all under one roof.
My weakness is lighting - I am happy to invest in a good piece of statement lighting. I have a thing for lamps and pendant lights, and since the kids don’t usually touch them, they don’t get ruined!
Art prints are my other love. I feel art on the walls really brings a decor scheme together and also makes your home ‘yours.’ Art is so personal - the colours, style and type that you choose creates a collection original to you and your home. Personally, I love typography art, photos or drawings of the natural world (animals, plants, buildings, landscapes) and the occasional bit of abstract art that grabs my attention.
One of my favourite things in my home is the branch I have in a recycled glass vase on my worktop. I picked it up on a walk with my dog, and it is so beautiful (and free too!) I love to bring aspects of nature into my home. I made a garland from clear wire and white feathers dipped in copper glitter which hangs from another branch above my dining table, which I also love.
My family definitely inspire me in life and in my home decor choices. I want to create a home that satisfies my creativity, but also somewhere comfortable, practical and homely for them to spend time in. We will probably stay here for another few years - I have more ideas to ‘finish’ the house, although I find my tastes are always evolving, and so for me (and much to my husband’s dismay), decorating is a constant thing, rather than something I do and it’s set in place for years!
My favourite rooms in our home are the main bedroom, studio area and ensuite which provide a calm, peaceful haven at the top of the house. The white walls and amazing natural light fill me with happiness! I also love Ruby’s room with the strong botanical wallpaper, and the dark walls in our cosy living room.
I hope you enjoyed looking round!
